Sports re-entry: between recovery and soreness

Good ! All good things have an end. I hope that you have enjoyed the summer, your holidays; that you have both had fun and rested. Back to reality now.

Quick question: What comes with the return to work ? The resumption of sport.

And that will be the subject of today’s article. It will be rather quick, since I don’t want to undermine your morale too much and you must also take advantage of your very last possible vacation moments.

So I’m just going to give you a few tips so that you can resume the sport smoothly, and so that you can bear as much as possible the aches and pains that may result.

If you're an inveterate sportsman, I don’t think you will need this article, since if your sports break only lasted the time of the holidays and you already had a certain level, your muscular memory will work. The first session may seem long and a bit painful, but very quickly, you will regain your habits and your performances.

But I'm speaking especially to you, big lazy ! It’s okay, this new school year is YOUR time ! After months without any sporting activity, you decide to get back to it? So be careful and follow these tips, if you don’t want to end up dropping the case after the first session.

  • Choose a sports activity that you like. I’m not telling you anything, we take more pleasure and we invest more in something we really like.

  • First define your goal, whatever it is. You need to know why you’re doing it and keep that in mind for the days when you’re going to have less motivation.

  • Take it slowly. You don’t need to jump right into a big session at the risk of disgusting yourself of the sport or worse, hurting yourself right off the bat. The first session does not need to be long or intense, on the contrary. Especially listen to your body.

  • Don’t forget to warm up before the session and stretch well afterwards. This reduces the risk of really painful soreness. Spend as much time as you need, that is to say 15min for the warm-up, but also 15min for the stretch.

  • If you have the opportunity to do accompanied sports, do it, so that you can support yourself and encourage yourself in the moments of great laziness.

To this, I think I can add the traditional style tips, think about hydration, pay attention to your diet, rest well, give your muscles time to recover. And from you to me the first aches will make you miserable, but will disappear after 4 to 5 days. Then be strong 💪!
