So, today, a little exoticism in your life 🌞! I’m here to talk to you about Afro hairstyle for summer.

Braids are not just a hairstyle, but much more than that. The history behind it goes back a long way, and has a significant meaning for the black people. So I’m going to tell you about my favorite part of this story: the period of slavery ⛓️.

During this period, blacks used their braids to hide rice or seeds before their distribution in the plantations; in order to feed themselves when hunger was felt.

It was during the journey from Africa to America that they were stripped of their identity by the slave traders, by having their heads shaved for «hygienic reasons».

But the real goal was other. Indeed, it was the first step for Europeans, to erase te culture of slaves and deteriorate the relationship between them and their hair. By this act, it became impossible to distinguish ethnic groups.

Then, their hair grew back, their culture returned and many blacks brought the braids both to stay in touch with their heritage, and to assert their independence.

This hairstyle also met the requirement of neat and tidy hair to work in plantations.

But without combs or herbal treatments traditionally used in Africa, and being imaginative, slaves relied on bacon grease, butter and kerosene to clean and treat their hair.

Anyway, I’ve tried to keep it short, but this legacy is my passion, so let’s move on to the 💇🏾‍♀️ hairstyles I recommend.

In my opinion, and I mean in MY opinion, don’t grab my jacket, white people can do Afro hairstyles because they like it, it’s cultural appreciation. Cultural appropriation, on the other hand, begins when the person promotes it by saying that it's his race (white in this case) that invented it.

So, no need to brag about the merits of Afro 😌 hair, but few are the ones we don’t like.

The hairstyle «knotless braids or braids without knot» is a variant of normal braids.
