Sports at gym or at home: Just do it!

Destress, this is not an umpteenth advertisement for Nike. That phrase existed long before they used it as a slogan, I promise.

⚔️ Today we will discuss the cruel dilemma of sports at home or at gym.

So yes, since the Covid outbreak, everyone has become accustomed to doing their little sports session at home, but here’s the thing… no more lockdowns, reopening of gyms, summer is fast approaching… so what do we do? We go back to the room, we stay at home, we give up everything ?this choice is too much scary ? Oh No no no, I think we still have to continue in fact, the third option is not really one.

So sit down, take a few minutes to relax by reading this article and enjoy this lull, because afterwards, you’ll have to move.

I’ll give you a little comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of each to help you decide. Here we go !

🏠 HOME SWEET HOME 🏠

👍 Let’s start by talking about the benefits of having your session at home.

You’ll be free to do your own ranking on your side, but in number one for me, comes the time factor.

In a 24-hour day, you have to work 7 to 8 hours a day; if we add the return trip, it takes us from 1:00 to 1:30 (for the lucky ones); you also have to sleep 7 to 8 hours at night...knowing that a sports session lasts on average between 45 minutes and 1:30. Well, I think you got my point.

Number two is money. You don’t have to go into that; you’re assuming that by not paying gym memberships, you’re saving money (or spending your money on anything else…you can choose).

Number 3: freedom, but then at all levels. Free to perform your session at any time of the day or night, free to choose your sports playlist, or why not, to continue your series quietly during your workout, but also free from the pressure that you can feel because of your complexes and your shyness when you are surrounded by people.

👎 It really doesn't look that bad, but, because there’s always a “but”, there are also some disadvantages to playing sports at home.

And here we start with space. Because a sports session is not just about two sets of abs, push-ups, and squats; depending on the size of your home, you may run out of space or disturb your downstairs neighbor at times not possible; a jumping jack session is she really wise at 11:00 !!

Then comes motivation and follow-up. We’re not all “pros” so sometimes you need a coach nearby, to explain what to do, how to do it, but also to motivate you; because that’s also the concern of the house, we’re so good at it that… Find the motivation to get off your couch, put on your sneakers and start your session.

Last but not least, efficiency. It all depends here on your goals, whether it’s really just maintenance or whether you’re looking to progress, to gain muscle.

In the first case, it will be fine… 1 floor mat, 2 elastics, 1 skipping rope and we are good.

In the second case, however… it will be necessary to start to invest in equipment a little more expensive otherwise you risk to quickly stagnate level progression and results.

🏋️‍♀️ LET’S GO TO THE GYM 🏋️‍♀️

👍 Am I now going to talk about sculpted bodies, sharp bodies dripping with sweat… not really, we’re not here for that.

It would be to write a different kind of article. However, it's a very good transition to introduce the first advantage to gym: the presence of highly motivated people who give their all and make you want to do the same. Driven by your pride, you will always seek to do more, to surpass yourself in public, when you would have just been so lazy if you had been alone.

Another advantage is the wide choice of devices and weights that allow you to always vary your sessions, to refine them by focusing on specific muscles; to have this prospect of permanent progression thanks to the range of weights at your disposal.

And of course, one of the advantages of the gym is the presence of qualified, certified coaches, in short what you want, but professionals who know what they are talking about. They will be able to guide you during your session, according to your objectives and are sometimes even very comfortable to talk to you about nutrition, because as we all begin to understand, sport begins on the plate.

👎 Here comes the time, not of laughter and song, but of inconvenience; much less fun, but yet, we must talk about it.

I was telling you earlier about the advantage of being surrounded by people, many, many, but really many people. The result is that for the availability of devices it can quickly become complicated and that’s not to mention all the awkward looks you can feel on you in the middle of a squat session, this sweet smell of sweat that eventually invades the room and these pseudo-connoisseurs who will always know more than you or even more than the coach himself and who will absolutely want to give you advice on how to perform this or that exercise.

Another drawback to consider is the cost of the subscription.

Then you will really find any price level. However even if you decide to turn to the so-called low cost gyms, when you are already struggling to make ends meet, it's still a significant expense in your monthly budget.

Which is why I have the last drawback…drum roll… pay a subscription that hires you most of the time for a whole year and only go to the gym for the first 3 weeks.

Anyway, with all this, I hope this article has helped you finally make a choice. And don’t forget, whether in the gym or at home, the most important thing is to ♪ move your body, move your body, move your body, everybody won’t you move your body, everybody won’t you move your body?!
